Argon House

About Argon House

Argon is a chemical element with the symbol Ar and atomic number 18. It is in group 18 of the periodic table and is a noble gas. Argon is the third-most abundant gas in the Earth's atmosphere – significantly more abundant than both water vapour and Carbon Dioxide.

Argon is produced industrially by the fractional distillation of liquid air. Argon is used in incandescent, fluorescent lighting, and other gas-discharge tubes. Argon makes a distinctive blue coloured laser and has identifying blue spectral lines. Blue is Argon’s House colour.

In Argon House we are proud that our students demonstrate the ASPIRE values for learning and life that permeate throughout our Academy and our Trust. Argon students seek to emulate our House Hero, Mary Percy Jackson, who is a role model for many of these values.

House Hero - Mary Percy Jackson (1904 - 2000)

In her day, Dr. Mary Percy Jackson was often described as a ‘living legend’. She served the people of the Peace River country as a physician for over 45 years.

In 1929, Dr Jackson was assigned to the territory of Battle River, a vast area covering nearly 400 square miles. The nearest medical aid was the town of Peace River, 120 kilometres to the south. It was connected with her territory by a dirt road, which was impassable in bad weather. She travelled by saddle horse.

Despite extremes in temperature and isolation, the solitary pioneer doctor ministered to her patients, often travelling many miles on horseback on virtually unmarked trails, and fording rivers and streams.
